I mean, come on! Who doesn’t want to read about what it was like to be a receptionist at the New Yorker? I mean! Especially in the twenty years spanning the end of the 50s and the start of the 70s! All those people! All those stories!
So why didn’t The Receptionist sell like hotcakes? It was probably the same reason people get cut by the royal family after publishing books about their dealings with them: it just isn’t done.
Oh, well. I’m in no position to suppose, since I didn’t read this book. I meant to many times, and even started it once, but maybe the answer to my former question is: it’s not very gripping.
I’d like to know what you think! Buy it, and then contact me so we can chat about it. Thanks!
